I took a trip to Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada, staying at 'Painters lodge' . Campbell River is located midway along Vancouver Island’s eastern shore and has at its doorstep the Pacific Ocean. The accommodation was reasonably priced - and the food was great! During this trip I used the guide services of 'Tall Tale Charters'. Steve was an excellent guide, and great fun to be out on the water with.
During the day I caught my limit of Chinook - all around the same size - 17lb:-
Trolling was the order of the day using a downrigger. We were fishing between tides, and it was interesting to learn how the tides changed the way the bait was presented to the fish - some 150' below us.
The end of the day saw us using the free boat ferry over to Painters lodges 'sister lodge' at April point. The meal overlooking the ocean, with a crafted beer was fantastic! I will be making a return trip for sure.
The next day was sight seeing, but I was sure to take in Campbell River itself. I think I will plan the next one around Steelhead and give that a shot as well!
